12 Best Tech Items for Your Classroom

I love tech, plain and simple. My dad has exposed me to technology since I was 3 years old through his job so I am a firm believer in utilizing it to facilitate my entire LIFE, including day-to-day classroom routines. Students and admin also really appreciate tech in the classroom so no matter your comfort level with it, the products I’ll be proposing below are all easy to use, and have all been tested in my own classroom! 1. Audio splitter

12 Best Tech Items for Your ClassroomThis little tool is great for literacy centres when you don’t have a device for each student. At my school, we share ChromeBook and iPad carts with each cycle, meaning sometimes, it can be a pain to reserve devices. This splitter allows me to reserve one ChromeBook or iPad for an audio centre rotation for up to 5 students at one time. There are even a few options that have 6 outputs and come in packs if you have larger groups!

2. Presentation clicker

The SmartBoard in my class is hooked up to my computer, so I can tap the board to switch between pages or tabs. But, I really don’t like standing in front of the class for that long. I like to be able to walk around and sit at each table with students while teaching in order to monitor comprehension and to answer questions. This small but mighty tool is so easy to use: you plug the little USB into your computer and go.

3. Bluetooth speaker

12 Best Tech Items for Your ClassroomIn our class, we are loud and rowdy and love to sing and dance! I use a bluetooth speaker to play our class playlist and even have students take turns being our class DJ. This speaker is loud enough to be heard throughout the room, has a long connection range and a 15-hour playing time. It’s easy to connect to my Apple Music playlist and go!

4. Wireless Doorbell

12 Best Tech Items for Your ClassroomI use this doorbell as my transition signal during math and literacy center rotations. You can also use this as an attention getter since it’s loud enough to be heard throughout the room. It’s also programmable with something like 52 tones, so you can customize it for Christmas, birthdays, and every holiday in between. It comes in a range of colours to fit your classroom decor or your personal style. It’s also easy to carry the button around by putting it in a sanitizer holder and attaching that to a lanyard.

5. Electric Sharpener

12 Best Tech Items for Your Classroom

Having an electric sharpener can really speed things up when your students are trying to work, but the sound they produce can get inconveniently irritating throughout the day. I have this sharpener in the corner of the classroom so students can use it during work time. I barely hear it!

6. Voice Amplifier

12 Best Tech Items for Your ClassroomI’m lucky enough to have a voice amplifier system installed in my classroom called FrontRow. There are two speakers in the classroom and it comes with two microphones, one standard and one can be worn around your neck as a sort of necklace. This has saved my voice on so many occasions! If you don’t have access to a system like this, there is one similar on Amazon.

7. Document viewer

12 Best Tech Items for Your ClassroomI’m also fortunate enough to have an Elmo document viewer in my classroom. It’s perfect for projecting a worksheet to the whole group. If you don’t have access, there is a similar product on Amazon (duh!).

8. Tablet

12 Best Tech Items for Your ClassroomMy school supplies iPads and I literally use mine for everything. Observation checklists during center rotations, Google Keep reminders, Google Forms grading rubrics, ClassDojo points, and the list goes on. I get a little FOMO being confined to my desk, so it’s nice to be able to walk around and get work done at the same time. If you don’t have access to tablets at your school, here is a very reasonable choice!

9. Karaoke microphone

12 Best Tech Items for Your ClassroomAlthough I have a voice amplifier system in my classroom, I have this karaoke microphone as a fun way for students to present. The Front Row mic is better quality, but students always get excited over having this mic. My last group called this my Ariana Grande microphone and the one before that called it a unicorn mic. It comes in a few different colours as well!

10. HP Sprocket

12 Best Tech Items for Your ClassroomThis small but mighty photo printer is great for several uses in the classroom. You can use it to take birthday pictures, take photos of how a space should look to make clean-up easier, use it for end of the year gifts, etc. The possibilities are endless!

11. HP Printer

12 Best Tech Items for Your Classroom

When I can’t get to the printers while I’m in class but just really need a copy or need to print something in colour, it’s nice to have a printer nearby! This particular printer is great because it’s teeny tiny and easily put away.

12 Best Tech Items for Your Classroom12. Barcode scanner

I use this barcode scanner for my classroom library to scan books in and out while using Classroom Book Source. It allows me to have an organized online database of my books and keep track of who has borrowed what. Plus, my classroom librarians always love using it!

I hope these items are as useful to you as they have been to my students and I! Do you use any other tech items in your classroom? I’m always eager to find new tech items, so please drop me a comment below!
